The Syndicate (live)
Dublin’s freshest 4-piece headline this week’s Forward/Slash. With support gigs for The Mightly Atomics, House of Dolls, and The Mighty Stef (to name a few) behind them, they’re being hyped as the next band to watch. Check their promo video below for a taste of what’s to come.
Cloud Castle Lake (DJ Set)
Dublin’s most handsome band? Four of the faces of 2011? I’m pretty sure State.ie have called these guys both of these things, and more. Either way, here’s a chance to see what a handsome band listen to at home, as Cloud Castle Lake do a DJ set. Listen below to see what all this music listening and face grooming has churned out.
Frankie Grimes (Forward/Slash)
Forward/Slash Frankie Grimes resident will as ever be playing everything from hip-hop and dub, to house and techno. He might play some of his own tracks, which have recently gotten international support from names like Screendeath, NT89, Munchi, Louis Louis, Two Charming Men and Beataucue to name a few.

This weekend is going to be big. On Thursday we’re back in the Bernard Shaw with one of my favourite Dublin bands, Mob Fandango. A ten piece funk band that always tears the house down. The Forward/Slash gig is in anticipation of the upcoming Dig EP, which features this monster. Check the event page for more information.
After Forward/Slash of course we have Chewn, this week featuring the excellent Chewy, who is for sure one of my favourite Dublin DJs. I still hold DJing with him on Stephen’s Day in the Bernard Shaw in a special place in my heart.
Then on Friday, it’s the big one. Forward/Slash takes over the Basement of the Twisted Pepper! The line-ups huge, we have Colin Perkins (who wrecked it Forward/Slash recently), Finn Merrins & Shane Murphy of Dirtbox notoriety, and a very special live set from Scuzzi Port. Upstairs, the Nightflight crew hold it down in the Cafe, while the incredible Brassroots wreck the stage with Handsome Paddy. Check the event page for more information.
You’re very lucky in that Forward/Slash are offering you all of this for an amazing €8, on the Forward/Slash cheaplist. Sign yourself up here, and I know I’ll see you there.
Tonight is going to be a very big night! Firstly, a return to Forward/Slash after a brief gap, with two acts I’m very excited about. Peaks, who I’ve met to get down to the Shaw for a long time, and Westway Flyover, who were so good last time I just had to ask them to return! It’ll also be a chance for me to get to play some Odd Future. Check the event here!
Then it’s onto Chewn! in Pod, and for our 4th week we have the always wonderful Two Charming Men, which is just a sign of the very big things to come for Chewn. Click attending right here. Here’s a few tracks that might get a spin…
…and of course there’s the Chewn! of the week, many people’s track of 2010, Breach – Fatherless. Win yourself a free naggin by screaming Chewn at the DJ when you hear this get played.
While ‘from the vault’ normally means a collection of dusty, cherished vinyl relics from years ago, I mean the digital vault. I mean looking back through your Soundcloud or Hype Machine favourites to tracks you saved which weren’t released yet, or weren’t available, and then digging them out. These are three such track, all from very different genres, spanning garage, bmore, and disco, but three very nice tracks, and one’s which make me glad of the digital vault.
The young production talent coming out of Ireland at the moment really excites me. Between Frankie Bingo, Orquesta, Lorcan Mak, Two Charming Men and Moths (to name a few), I think the dance scene in Dublin in a few years could be a really exciting place. Here’s the latest offering from Moths, a really beautiful track, accompanied by an equally beautiful video. I’m looking forward to what he comes out with in the future, and you can all look forward to a Moths set at Forward/Slash this summer!
